Work day at the library (22 May 2026)

In 2026 Duggan's Serra Mortuary, contacted the Colma Historical Association to see if they were interested in the funeral records of Driscoll's Mortuary, which has now merged with Duggan's Serra Mortuary. The donation includes the records of various mortuaries that, through the years, were affiliated with Driscoll's. There are 109 books that date from the 1890's through the early 2000's. SMCGS has started to index these volumes.
We are receiving the first volumes this week. Please join us for a workday to transcribe these interesting records.

DNA Discoveries: Using Autosomal & Direct Line Testing (27 Jun 2026)

Curious about what you might discover using DNA testing for genealogy? This beginner-friendly session explores how different types of DNA — autosomal, Y-DNA, and mitochondrial DNA — can help confirm family connections, add new branches to your tree, and break through brick walls. The session will include a high-level overview of DNA tools available at the major testing sites. Case studies will illustrate how the presenter has used DNA to uncover family stories.

Terry is a genealogist with nearly 50 years of experience, specializing in DNA-based research to solve family mysteries. She facilitates a monthly Research Like a Pro with DNAsession for her local family history society and leads the Advanced DNA group for the BC Genealogical Society, where she supports researchers in refining their skills and building confidence in working with DNA results.
