The Orphan Train movement, which operated between 1854 and 1929, transported about 200,000 orphaned and homeless children from East Coast cities to foster homes, primarily in the Midwest. These baby trains lasted until the 1920s, when organized foster care became available. Home Children was the child migration scheme founded by Annie MacPherson in 1869, under which more than 100,000 children were sent from the United Kingdom to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. In this talk we will focus on home children sent to Canada
